The inductance of the inductive bands is proportional to the cross section area of the band's closed loop around the body. It therefore changes as the patient breathes. The elctronics in the MultiRIP measure the thoracic and abdominal effort signals and their sum (sum model) to provide accurate and reliable respiratory effort signals used to assist the technician in identifying desynchronized chest and abdominal breathing.
